Without a strong demand of sustainability short term interests will prevail in decision making. Young people are the central and largest body of the world population and will be the majority of voters, consumers, educators, social actors and decision makers for the next three decades. These young citizens are the main stakeholders of a sustainable future, yet they and their interests are underrepresented when policy are decided and implemented. To foster change young people must participate to decision making, they are the essential constituency of any change aiming at ensuring a dignified future for all. Local decisions shape our future. From housing to social programs, from water supply to transport, from education to legality, from public procurement to information, local governments and communities choices are key for every possible path towards a sustainable development. Influencing local decision making impact on the course of our societies. |
